What will I learn from S.L.Y.D.E?
We will teach Young Drivers about road safety and car control; this will include:
- Moving off and Stopping
- Use of mirrors safely
- Gear changes
- Emergency stopping
- Smooth driving
- All reverse manoeuvres
- Dealing with junctions
- Hill Starts
- Meeting Traffic
- And much more.
We will also be able to answer any questions the young driver/parent/carer may have. Young Drivers will receive 45 minutes of professional tuition from Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) approved Driving instructors in dual controlled cars. To enable them to be knowledgeable drivers, we believe this is the best place, for them to try a diverse selection of cars to give them their confidence, before they head for the road.
As part of your time with S.L.Y.D.E you will also receive a 20-30 minute educational presentation from our speaker prior to driving (on selected months). Young people hear from emergency service personnel speaking from the heart about how hard it is to attend a serious collision involving young people.
We currently work in partnership with a number of organisations including Essex & Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Essex Air Ambulance, Essex Police and Essex Drugs and Alcohol Services.
The Young Driver Tuition lessons start from 8.30am, with the last lesson at 4:30pm. If you need a special time to work around your day please call before booking and this can be arranged. Once a month S.L.Y.D.E is held at the Colchester, Essex and Sittingbourne, Kent locations.
In order to take part in this scheme, Young Drivers must be at least 14 years of age and all pupils must be able to physically reach the controls of the vehicle. Any disability must be declared, but this information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
